Warm Hearts Warm Meals Meets Its Goal: Binational Foundation Tijuana Sin Hambre

After a two-month campaign, Warm Hearts Warm Meals by CBX, in coordination with This Is About Humanity and ICF, met this year’s goal of $75,000 USD, carrying on their commitment to the most vulnerable communities in the San Diego-Tijuana region. This leads to the opening of a nutritional community kitchen by binational foundation Tijuana Sin Hambre where at least 2,000 people will be fed everyday, making it possible to offer more than 100,000 meals a year.

The past month of August the third edition of Warm Hearts Warm Meals was launched, a CBX initiative in coordination with international non profit organizations This Is About Humanity and ICF, who were hoping to collect a total of 75,000 USD to provide food security to vulnerable immigrant communities in the Cali-Baja region. Ever since they opened their binational bridge in 2005, CBX has been passionate about being socially active in vulnerable communities in the region and joining forces with such renowned associations to help those in need.

Thanks to every donation from collaborators, clients and organizations, the matching funds campaign met their goal, and merged with binational foundation Tijuana Sin Hambre to inaugurate a community nutritional kitchen. This space will comprise 8 immigrant shelters and 2 orphanages, looking to nourish at least 2,000 people, making it possible to offer 100,000 meals a year.

Recognized chefs from the region like Chef Ruffo Ibarra from Oryx and Claudia Sandoval, judge in Latin Master Chef, will sum up this initiative with their time and hands with the distribution of food to the kids and families that need it. These strategic alliances look not only to help but also to inspire other organizations to collaborate in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in our region, and strengthen the food system in Baja California as a long term plan.

“CBX is thrilled to participate in projects of this magnitude. The best way to show our gratitude to the travelers and residents taking advantage of this corridor, we look to support those who need help in our community”, stated CBX CEO Jorge Goytortua in the launching after handing in the check with the total sum of money raised by the campaign.

Tijuana Sin Hambre site opened its doors in the old Bol Corona, in Avenida Melchor Ocampo #921 in Zona Centro, Tijuana, B.C.

“We look to nourish not only their tummy but their heart too”, expressed Maru Riqué, founder of Tijuana Sin Hambre; her efforts have had an enormous impact in vulnerable communities for over 2 years now, always looking for not only hunger but nutrition. Riqué thanked everyone involved for their support and commitment to the project and the cause itself.
