New Transit Processing Building (NEP) at Tijuana International Airport will enhance the CBX experience

Since the lift of border restrictions in November 2021, binational traffic has increased, and this major project will facilitate the processing of international passengers with modern and spacious facilities.

The new 420,000 ft building at the Tijuana International Airport is expected to open in June 2022. It will vastly improve the experience for passengers transiting through Cross Border Xpress by expanding capacity at all passenger processing points:

  • New facility with more than 420,000 ft of floor space.
  • 83% more space for passenger processing.
  • World-class technology for a more agile process
  • 300% increase on airline counters for documentation
  • A total of 14 airport security lines, all with state-of-the-art technology.
  • Customs inspection stations increase from 2 to 4.
  • FMM kiosks
  • DNR form kiosks
  • Boarding pass kiosks

Other improvements will include more stations for Mexican Immigration agents, directly benefiting foreign passengers, and two new boarding gates.

The opening of this new building responds to the growth of both the Tijuana International Airport and CBX in economic terms and the volume of passengers traveling between both sides of the border for family visits, leisure, and business trips.

Cross Border Xpress is an excellent option for those who wish to cross from the United States to the Tijuana International Airport to take a flight to a destination in Mexico. It allows direct crossing without having to use the traditional ports of entry (POE); the benefit is even greater on the way back to the United States, since there is no need to leave the airport for crossing and the delays at other POEs can be significantly longer.

There are also many Mexican passengers who decide to take their flight to Tijuana and cross directly from CBX to San Diego, and upon arrival to the CBX Terminal they can enjoy the benefit of renting a car on site or or bepicked up by their family or friends while enjoying a coffee or snack at one of the food options offered at the terminal.

CBX offers several ways to purchase your tickets:

  • Online at www.crossborderxpress.com
  • Through the CBX app, which can be downloaded from the App store or Google Play
  • At electronic kiosks and ticket counters at the Tijuana International Airport in the baggage claim area or at the CBX San Diego terminal

It is also possible to purchase your ticket directly with your airline when you purchase your flights, choosing TJX as your origin or destination. This option is available with Viva Aerobus, Volaris, and Aeromexico.
